When I met guitarist and songwriter Dylan Doyle, he was an experienced performer with original music, but hadn’t yet put together a studio-produced recording. He’s a great improviser with an intuitive sense and ability to come up with great parts and sounds, so we wanted to see what we could do taking that spontaneous style and building from there. (Many of the guitar solos on this album were first-take home runs!) We both really appreciate creating a mood with every part of a song, whether it’s pulling you in with a minimalist tone or hitting you with a wall of sound. This was a project to capture Dylan’s ideas and songs and transform them into full productions by creating a vibe around what he was honing in on, and then pushing that to the forefront.
